The Local Search feature of Smart Map performs proximity searches for businesses, landmarks, etc. and displays search results directly within Smart Map in nine different languages. It functions almost identically to Google's Local search service.
There are several ways to perform local searches using Smart Map:
Search Box
Simply type into the search box a request like "coffee" and press the Search button. Smart Map will deliver a steaming hot cup of coffee directly to your desk. Actually, Smart Map will assume that you are looking for coffee shops near the current center point of the map and will show you where to find them.
Typically you will want to input both "what" and "where" criteria into the search box, such as "coffee in seattle" or "coffee near seattle". Google looks for the key works "in" and "near" to trigger a local search.
If Smart Map's default language is set to something other than English, use the equivalent preposition to "in" or "near" in that language. Otherwise the search may fail. |
Querystring Parameters
You can pass search criteria through the querystring to trigger a local search immediatly as the page loads. See Local Search Querystring Parameters for more details and examples.
Search from the Balloon Window
Just like at Google Local, you can perform local searches directly within a balloon window. Clicking the Search Nearby link reveals a search box within the balloon window.
