Glossary Item Box

Smart Map can read GPX files.

GPX or GPS eXchange Format is an XML type format used to transfer GPS data between software applications.  It can be used to describe waypoints, tracks and routes.

Smart Map can read GPX files and display the waypoints, tracks and routes on the map and in the sidebar.  You can toggle these overlays on and off by ticking the checkbox beside each element in the sidebar.

Smart Map automatically renders the sidebar, complete with checkboxes and links beside each waypoint, track and route in a GPX file when it reads the GPX file.  It also plot these elements on the map automatically. You don't need to do anything to make this happen except feed Smart Map the URL to the GPX file.

Three ways to feed a GPX URL to Smart Map

There are three ways to explicitly feed Smart Map a GPX file:

  1. Paste the URL to the GPX file into the Search Box and click Search.
  2. Pass the URL through the querystring using the "q" parameter (see example below). Or,
  3. Enter the URL of the GPX file into the Default Query box on the Settings page of Smart Map and Update.

Example

This example passes the GPX URL through the querystring using the q parameter.
